The brief was to create a lawn free urban space with seating for entertaining. The garden was excavated to create different levels for interest and to allow for a more relaxed flow through the space. Sandstone was used for the more formal areas of seating and dining with gravel and planting for the surrounding area.
Rendered walls were built to provide casual seating, with a hardwood bench built in for lounging. The dining area is at the back of the garden, unseen from the house, giving an enclosed feeling. Lighting is built into the walls to light steps, feature plants and under the bench. Planting is lush to soften the effect of the hard landscaping.
